PLAYING CARDS
The playing cards are in the shape of beer mats. They feature the board Game's logo one one side and the other, an individual task as to how many spaces you can move on the board as well as the situation that you are faced with.

INSTRUCTIONS
Writing the instructions proved to be a lot harder than I thought, it was tricky to explain things so that someone who had never heard of the route or played the game could understand.
GAME DEVELOPMENT
Experimenting with the shape of the road to see what we could make the game board look like. We wanted to keep the shape of the road as accurate to the real road.
LOGO DEVELOPMENT
Adding colour to the logo from the colour scheme that we decided upon really brings it to life.
We are going for this logo as it holds all the information in perfectly.

GAME IDEAS
Taking some colours card, to give us some creativity away from a computer screen, we all cut up abstract shapes for an idea for the board game. The idea was to signify being drunk and wobbly like you would be doing the run.
we have decided to use this colour scheme for the game, the colours are partly taken from the Browns and Reds that you find in pubs but also blue to liven up the game.

INITIAL IDEAS
Gathering ideas as a group, we sat and discussed our ideas for each factor of the Otley Run.
Distance of the route:
-The route is a long way so the game must factor in how hard it is to complete it.
-Geographical accuracy is crucial
Pubs Along the route:
-From research we must decide what makes each pub individual and include this on the game.
-include key landmarks along the route
Drinking Element:
-The game will feature tasks to drink throughout like the real Otley run.
-Having playing cards to tell you where to move next on the route.
Drunk Characters on the route:
-a big part of the Otley Run is the dressing up so this needs to be shown with the counters
Having 2 illustrators with very differing styles we plan to create a drunk side of the game from Megan's messy drawings, and a sober side of the game from Britney's neat drawing.
The illustrators will spend the 3 days drawing and Jack, Janina and I will create the game design.
Components that we need to have complete by Friday:
-Game Board
-Counters
-Cards
-Instructions
-Optional box for the game if there's time.
As a group we brainstormed what could be used for the situations on the playing cards.
As a group we brainstormed ideas for what characters we would include for the board game characters.
-slutty nun
-baby
-man dressed as a woman
-banana
-smurf
-Jockey
-priest
We have based the logo for the game on a sign we found in The Skyrack in Headingley. The sign uses mismatched items to make up the words Otley Run. We then played around with the placing of the words and how we would include both of our university names.

OTLEY RUN RESEARCH

Before we took the girls on the Otley Run we did some research on google of what the route actually was and what pubs were included.
The Otley Run is named this because it runs down all the pubs along the Otley Road into Leeds City Centre.
We started at Drydock, The last pub on the route, as it was closest to us. We were then going to walk the route from town up to Headingley. Unfortunately by the time we got to the Fenton, it had started raining so decided instead to miss out most of the pubs and get off in Headingley. We documented what we saw along the route with photos in order to take inspiration from later.
By the time we got to the last pub, about 5 drinks later, I think we were scaring the poor American girls who have not before been exposed to British drinking culture. it was interesting seeing how much drinking is a part of our student culture compared to the Americans, who have only just turned 21, therefore only just able to drink.
We did the route on a Monday afternoon so we diddnt get to show the American girls the wild costumes that you see along the route. We did some research on the internet of some of the costumes that you see on a typical Friday and Saturday night.
