Before I could start designing the infographic the article need to be shortened and summarised in order to pick out the key information for the infographic. Me and the social media manager sat down and shortened the article together and then when we had finished it we sent it to the content writer in order to check over it.
My first step in the design was to draw out some ideas for the illustrations to go along with the text. The idea was to simply sum up each point in a illustrated way in order to bring the point to life. My initial drawings I just did simply with shapes on illustrator. I asked the social media director what she thought of them, she really liked them we just tweaked a few things including the colours and also rounded the edges on the shirts of the people in order to make it a bit more stylised.
I personally did not like the style of these images but the social media manager really liked them and told me to stick with them. This encouraged me to continue with this style although it was not actually fitting of the companies branding at all.
Once I had the content I started working on layout and design. The infographic needed to be long so people could scroll through it on a website.
The initial design had the gradient background similar to the M2 bespoke branding. I used my own typeface as I wasn't sure what would be best to use. I wanted something bold and fitting with the illustrations. In keeping with the illustrations i kept the graphic lighthearted and simplistic.
My next step was to alter the layout in order to best fit the content. You can see my progression of placing in the content below. I added the main points in first and developed it from there, lastly adding in the illustrations.
