In this project I have learnt valuable skills in typography and how to find a typeface that fits with the visual information, I have found that neutral typefaces are good as they do not take away from the other parts of the design. My layout skills have also greatly improved during this project, being able to practice layouts means that I have learnt from my mistakes and create better work. This is also down to getting in more practice on the computor software and knowing shortcuts in order to make my layout better such as using guides like rulers and grids. Using pantone in my work is something I had not looked at before and I feel my work is now stronger because of it as it enabled me to choose a colour scheme instead of not really thinking about the colours. I think my work is more refined now because of it. I have also learnt about paignation, this was a big learning curve in my work as I had not had to approach this before, creating testers and practicing before I printed was a good way to do it in order to do correctly and not mess up on the final outcome.
I enjoyed the creative freedom I got in this project, it has given me more confidence in my work. I enjoyed making my pantone booklet as the colour schemes that I created were not something I would ever usually pick out but I think they worked better than any other colour schemes I have ever made because they come from photos where the colours are already working together. I also enjoyed working to a set brief, the exhibition poster was really fun as I could put my own stamp on a well known gallery. It was an interesting insight into how working for a client would be. The Tate is also a gallery I really like and I have always admired their branding so I really enjoyed trying to emulate it in my work.
Although it was a useful thing for me to learn I found format, in particular, paignation extremely frustrating and hard, not to mention the printing costs. I also found it quite difficult at the start of the project as I diddn't have a great deal of experience using the computor programs it was quite frustrating and i had to learn as I went along so it took me a while to do things. In design was difficult to master in order to get pages of a booklet in the right order.
This project has helped me get some experience with working to a clients needs, from doing the penguin book covers to the exhibition poster, researching the brand or organisation I was working to proved useful, looking into existing pieces of work from these brands helped me decide on my design decisions. My newfound skills in layout, format, colour and type will be useful in the future and i can develop them further now i am faster at doing things as i know how to use shortcuts to my advatage.
