In Charlie's workshop we spent the day coming up with our own Rube Goldberg Machine using materials we had collected from around the studio. The aim was to get a balloon to pop in the most complicated way possible.
Our Rube Goldberg machine was in the corner of the room with a sink. We thought it would be really cool to incorporate the sink into the machine to have water flowing through it. The corner also had a high shelf at the top with we wanted to include in order to give the machine a lot of different levels.
Our final machine started with the door opening triggering a cup to tip up and let a ball roll down a ramp. The ball then hit dominoes which fall over and let off a swinging roll of tape with knocks the tap, triggering water to fall into a pipe trickling into a cup. When the cup is heavy enough from water, it drops, like scales the other non weighted side then lifts up. going up and knocking a ball off its post and sends it down a pipe. The ball then falls from the end of the pipe knocking some books. The last book, next to the balloon has sharp tacks on it. When it falls onto the balloon it pops the balloon.
The Goldberg machine took a lot of testing to get right. It was a test of patience and teamwork but ours was one of the only ones that actually worked when we filmed them.
