We edited the video in Adobe After Effects, Unfortunately we didn’t get a full run through of the Rube Goldberg machine like we did with the one we made in the workshop, this meant we had to do a lot of cutting to different shots in order to make the machine look smooth. We also made a behind the scenes video showing the process of us coming up with ideas, testing and failures of the process and then how it came together at the end. In the video you can see how we worked together as a team, discussing ideas and testing ideas. We filmed in Megs living room where she has studio lighting and a backdrop, we blacked out the window in order to keep consistent lighting throughout the day.

BEHIND THE SCENES VIDEO
When we shot the video, things did not go to plan, the fan did not have much power so didn’t actually blow the confetti like we had originally planned. We had to change the ending of the video to deal with this very last minute as we didn’t have time to plan anything else. Instead we had me popping up from behind the set and blowing the confetti off the shelf. We soon realised that to get the machine working would take a lot longer than expected so we were tight for time and this meant we didn’t have enough time for filming and editing. This meant the shots we did get were not always to the best standard and it was hard to piece the video together. This is all documented in our behind the scenes video that we shot at the same time showing how we got to the final edit.

We only had 2 days to set up the machine and film the entire thing. This meant that when things went wrong it ate into a precious time. We ended up being rushed with the filming as the set up had taken longer that expected. The behind the scenes video shows the struggles we had with the end shot of the fan blowing confetti. We ended up just using blooper shots in the final video with me popping up from behind the set to blow the confetti.

RUBE GOLDBERG DEVELOPMENT
We spent an entire day putting together the Rube Goldberg Machine and the set. each part of the machine required thinking about and then testing until the set up was spot on. We recorded our progress in order to create a behind the scenes video to show Charlie on Friday.
RUBE GOLDBERG IDEAS
As a group we started thinking about what worked well in our teams Rube Goldberg model from the workshop. We liked the user involvement where the machine started from the door opening. Also our use of water, this was quite inventive and got a great reaction from people, it was quite a technical mechanism but when it worked it looked amazing. My initial thought for the art and culture theme was art attack, with lots of paint splattering, we realised we needed to steer away from this idea as it was quite obvious. We liked the water method so we wanted to recreate this with red wine in our ident. We were originally going to have a wine glass falling over but this could have been messy around the set. Many of our ideas had to be scaled back. To gather ideas we each went back to our houses to see what items we could gather to do with the theme art and culture. Went to megs house as we were going to shoot in her living room. Gathering all of our items and seeing what furniture Meg had was good to gauge the space in which we had to make a scene work. We decided upon a coffee table and a bookshelf that would be the basis pf the set. Testing ideas such as a house of cards being nocked over, door slamming. Our idea behind the theme of our set was a cozy living room set. The set was meant to reflect a person that would watch an art and culture show.
In preparation for the video we knew we all had loads of trinkets and things we could use for the set. So we each went and gathered everything we could to use for the video. I gathered things like fairy lights, dvd's postcards, paint, paintbrushes, magazines and other items. We took everything to megs house where we intended to film the ident as she had all of the lighting equipment and space for us to film.
We decided on a cozy warm room feel, dim lighting and lots of clutter. The more stuff to look at, the more visually exciting. We wanted people to notice a new part of it every time they watched it. Having the set sum up someone that would watch an art and culture program meant that we had an old-fashioned stereotype. This cultural stereotype acknowledged the theme but was freshened up by the quirky rube Goldberg machine. In order to develop the design we had to do extensive testing of the components of the Rube Goldberg machine. Components like the water filling mechanism took a long time to perfect and changed a lot over the course of the process. It started off on a ramp, but we couldn’t get the marbles to stay on the ramp so instead we just let the uneven floor do the job. Also the guitar part had to change as we couldn’t get the marbles to fall directly onto the guitar, so we had to have them running down it instead. We spent a day setting up and planning the machine and set, a day filming and then a day editing. During this time as a group we divided jobs between us to work as effectively as possible. When setting up we each sat and played around with possible mechanisms for the machine.
I also had some bigger items like a Persian rug that was perfect for the ident. Aswell as a big desk lamp that would provide good lighting swell as a nice aesthetic for the video.
We went round to megs with the stuff we had collected as a ground and started playing around with different ideas.
We started by setting up the layout of the set with bigger pieces of furniture.
We then started adding in the details as we figured out how the machine would work through it.

IDENT RATIONALE
We have sent a rationale of our plan for the Rube Goldberg machine to Charlie. This rationale shows are intentions ready for shooting this week.
We were really pleased with the machine we created in the workshop so we want to create some parts of this in our ident. We want to give the Rube Goldberg some context, so bringing the scene around it into the shot. The other machine started by someone opening the door, we want this one to work the same way. Also incorporating liquid again as everyone loved how we included water in the last one.

PLAYING CARDS
The playing cards are in the shape of beer mats. They feature the board Game's logo one one side and the other, an individual task as to how many spaces you can move on the board as well as the situation that you are faced with.
